Firetruck of Hope started because some of my friends were firemen, and they wanted to take sick kids for rides — but the insurance and liability made it almost impossible to do. So about eight years ago, we purchased a fire truck of our own, got it logoed with all the superheroes, and started taking terminally ill kids for rides. Then we started taking sick kids for rides. Then we opened it up to anybody fighting anything who wants a ride — or wants to drive the fire truck. We’ve put over 40,000 miles on her since, and we’ve already been through the top part of the engine, the rear end, and the transmission. We’ve taken over 18,000 children for rides. The upkeep is astronomical — between the oil changes and the tires, the tires are about to break us. But imagine your child, who loves fire trucks, getting in, getting strapped in, and driving around town — getting their picture taken, and getting a little fire helmet.
The amounts are only suggestions — never a minimum. If you have $5, give $5 — it will be put with somebody else’s spark, and together it gets the job done. Every dollar given here stays in the Firetruck of Hope bucket at One Spark Foundation. One Spark has no paid employees — 100% of the money goes to the cause. One Spark Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 27-1799429, and your gift is tax-deductible.
