Scholarships

The One Spark Kindness Scholarship is a $2,000 grant awarded annually to two high school seniors enrolled in a higher education program. We’re looking for someone with a commitment to making the world a better place – a student who believes in being consistently kind and has demonstrated this throughout their community.

Does that sound like you or someone you know? If so, read on to learn about our requirements.

Requirements for Eligibility

Hello! If you’re reading this you’re probably interested in our scholarship. It’s kind of an offbeat idea, we know but we’re proud of it, because we believe being kind to others is a really big deal! But there are still some qualifications you need to meet and rules you need to follow in order to qualify. We understand every circumstance is different, but please be aware that we rarely grant exceptions to these rules. If we did, we’d have to do it for everyone. You know how it goes.

  • Student must be a senior in high school
  • Student must have maintained between a 2.5 and 3.5 GPA throughout his or her final two years in high school.
  • Student must maintain this GPA during the application process as well – if the student intentionally drops their grades while we are deciding, this will result in immediate denial regardless of meeting the other requirements. You must keep up your grades!*
  • Student should be able to demonstrate a relatively trouble-free last few years. We all make mistakes, but if you’re in and out of the office or jail, there may be someone more deserving.
  • Student should be able to produce, at our request, three references from adults: one from a parent, one from a teacher, and one from a person who knows you. You may not include references from friends.
  • Student must plan to attend college or technical school the semester following his or her high school graduation.
  • In order to prove his commitment to going to school, all semi-finalists will be asked to undergo fairly intensive interviewing.
  • Student must demonstrate a genuine need for these funds.
  • Students must include at least a 500 word, written essay, as well as a video submission.
  • Entries for August will be due June 15, 2015. Entries for January will be due October 15, 2016.

*This should go without saying, but intentionally “tanking” one’s grades is prohibited and, if discovered, will result in immediate denial of your application—or, if you win, revocation of your scholarship. You must maintain at least a 2.5 from the start of your application and through the 2016 school year if you win.

If you haven’t noticed, we’re looking for a specific kind of kid here: One who, like the title says, has demonstrated consistent kindness over the past few years. If that describes you, we emphatically urge you to fill out an application.

Good luck to all applicants for the 2015/2016 school year! We can’t wait to meet you all.
