Sparks in the Parks is a group of like-minded volunteers coming together — One Spark has no paid employees — to take care of our unhoused friends, the veterans on the streets, and people who may never get off the streets because of addiction or alcoholism. We prepare the meat, the sides, the desserts — then we get everybody together and head out to the streets and the parks. We serve the highest quality food with the best service, and we bring clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, coats, hygiene products, snacks, and pop. We do all this because most of them will never get any of it — they don’t have the money. And the price of every meal is one hug.
Just ask Carrie. For years, David took care of Carrie, who had a meth problem. He talked to her the other day: she has been off the streets for 10 years, went to college, earned an accounting degree and a master’s in accounting, and is working at a big accounting firm. She told him that every time our volunteers fed her, loved on her, and told her about the Word of God, it pulled her away from the streets. One day she fought hard enough — with all the help she was provided — that she got off the streets. Then we got her help for her education. Today she has a child, a husband. That’s the power of love. That’s the power of kindness. That’s the power of feeding people’s stomachs, their souls, and their hearts.
The amounts are only suggestions — never a minimum. If you have $5, give $5 — it will be put with somebody else’s spark, and together it gets the job done. Every dollar given here stays in the Sparks in the Parks bucket at One Spark Foundation. One Spark has no paid employees — 100% of the money goes to the cause. One Spark Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EIN 27-1799429, and your gift is tax-deductible.
With gratitude, from the One Spark team
We charge for every meal that we feed — it’s one hug. Sparks in the Parks feeds 450 to 800 people per event, from a city parking lot. Anybody and everybody — we don’t ask for any ID. A meal event costs $2,500 to $5,000. Carrie’s story: meth had her on the streets until Sparks volunteers fed her, loved on her, and told her about the Word of God — it pulled her away from the streets. She has been off the streets 10 years, earned an accounting degree and a master’s in accounting, works at a big accounting firm, and now has a child and a husband. That’s the power of love, that’s the power of kindness, that’s the power of feeding people’s stomachs, their souls, and their hearts.
It doesn’t pay for any salaries. No paid employees. 100% of the money goes to the cause.
